Another thing to stress about: the possibility of a drought and water rationing

Okay, what's next?

That is, in terms of bad, apocalyptic-sounding news.

After reading this latest tidbit from the Contra Costa Times about new drought worries, I had to search various End of Days websites and view all their rather interesting prophesies about how events occuring over the past century signify that the End of Days, or Reckoning, is coming.

These frightening signals of the End of Days are far ranging and include: our national economic crisis; the political and economic rise of Russia, China and Islam; the growing conflicts throughout Asia and Africa; the proliferation of nuclear weapons; and, finally, the general U.S. "moral and ethical" decline, which includes, for example, our growing acceptance of gay rights.

And, then, another sign of the Apocalypse--cue the ominous sounding music--an impending drought in California.

Our water is running out! What more evidence do any of us need that the world as we know it will end in 2012--as some believe.

Coincidentally or not, 2012 is the year that my favorite GOP spitfire, Sarah Palin, aims to run for president. Oh my!

Back to our local resources crisis. I'm talking about our statewide water crisis.

Water: many of the world's visionaries regard water as the most precious resource on earth, even more precious than oil.

California, the Contra Costa Times says, faces what Department of Water Resources Director Lester Snow calls "the worst California drought in modern history."

Bummer. As if we needed more bad news.

The Contra Costa Times adds: "The likelihood of water rationing in many parts of the state, including Contra Costa, is increasing while water managers appear certain to face difficult decisions to balance the demands of farms, cities and the environment."

It appears that this looming drought--as well as other Biblical signs of the Apocalypse--show that we are all in big, big trouble.

Although, I'm not a big believer in Bibical signs of the Apocalypse, the news of this water rationing and drought adds to my speculation that I will be s--- out of luck if and when the supposed End of Days comes.

As you can probably already tell, I'm a non-believer. So, I guess, according to Apocalypic predictions, as a non-believer, I am condemned to die a second death in the Lake of Fire.

In any event, let's get back to news about the drought. The Contra Costa Times reports:

State water managers months ago told their customers they would likely get only 15 percent of their requests for Delta water, and now they might have to cut that figure.

The likelihood of water rationing in many parts of the state, including Contra Costa, is increasing while water managers appear certain to face difficult decisions to balance the demands of farms, cities and the environment.

There is no reason to stress if we all do our part in conservation. Somehow we all made it trough the drought of 1976-77 with out being over-stressed.

However it doesn't seem that we have learned very much from those years and neither do we continue to practice the water conservation methods we learned then.

We have had rampant growth of mega-homes in all parts of our state and somehow people never equate growth with the need for more water. Look at all of the beautiful landscaping and huge swimming pools and hot tubs that have been added.

Now is the time to bite the bullet by shortening your showers (navy showers do work), catch all the cold water in a bucket for later use, the yellow/mellow approach in the toilet in not gross, use "gray" water from the kitchen to water outside, wash your car less often and use the bucket method not commercial car washes, get rid of your lawn if you can't cut down on watering days and times, etc. I am sure that the water companies will have brochures available with lots of suggestions for cutting water use so let's all pull together and do our part.

True confession from Soccer Mom:
Because of a family celebration last night, I had a couple glasses of red wine before researching and writing this post. And my son wanted us to watch American Idol. (It is a mother-son bonding activity.) So, I'm happily buzzed with horrible wanna-be American idols singing above view of my laptop and Simon Cowell chewing them out. And then I go on these End of Days websites: what a toxic brew! My first draft of this story was something of a big garbled mess, more than the garbled mess of most of my posts. I managed to make some fixes this morning.

Meanwhile, to Anonymous: thanks for advising us that there is no reason to stress if we all do our part, even in small ways.
