Man arrested in attempted home burglary

An unemployed 20-year-old Concord man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of attempting to break into a home on Corona Place, near Treat Boulevard.

Sgt. Lanny Edwards says police received a report just before noon from residents of a home in the 1300 block of Corona Place. The residents told police they heard someone trying to get into a rear door. When the residents went into their back yard, they saw the would-be burglar, who, confronted, immediately fled.

Walnut Creek police officers arrived and began searching the area. They found a suspect about three blocks away on Pleasant Hill Road, near Geary Road. The homeowner positively identified the suspect as the man who tried to break into his home.

Police identified the man as Juan Hernandez. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted residential burglary and possession of a switchblade and booked in the Martinez Detention facility with a bail of $51,000.
