Early morning blaze destroys Alamo house Sunday; fire smolders all day

You could see the smoke rising from the hill west of Interstate 680 in Alamo throughout the day Sunday.
came from a house in the 1600 block of Cervato Circle that went up in flames early Sunday morning.
San Ramon Valley Fire Battalion Chief John Viera says a call came in at about 3:30 a.m. that the three-story house, west of Danville Boulevard, was on fire. He says the homeowner and the rest of the occupants escaped the hillside house without injury after the fire broke out somewhere on the second story.
Viera said house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The nature of the fire made it unsafe for firefighters to enter the house to douse the flames, so they did what they could to contain the flames to this structure and keep them from spreading to nearby residences.
Estimated damages are around $1 million.

I saw this burning all day. I don't understand why they let it burn.

Uh, the article said that they controlled it to keep it from spreading, and it was too far along for firefighters to risk their lives to save it. You know, peoples' lives are more important than a house.

a real danger for a historical structure, we have to do something to avoid the destruction of this building, I hear that in some other country, some hunters light a historical building only for fun.
