Helicopters searching over my neighborhood for stabbing suspect

I've been hearing the helicopter, and it turns out it, and Contra Costa Sheriff's deputies are looking for someone who stabbed a bicyclist riding near the intersection of Boulevard Way and Kinney Drive in Walnut Creek's unincorporated Saranap neighborhood.

The Contra Costa Times says the attack occurred sometimes around 9:20 p.m. The bicyclist was stabbed numerous times, "but appeared to be alert when paramedics arrived to take him to the hospital."

So, Contra Costa Sheriff's deputies have the dogs out, and I'm listening to the helicopter right now, circling overhead.

We in the neighborhood as well and have been wondering what is going on. Thank you so much for informing us!

In an updated story, the Times said it was three men who pulled the victim off his bicycle and began stabbing him in the upper torso.

wow.
my neighborhood had roadblocks searching for the 3 guys. Crazy stuff happening in walnut creek.

I've been reading your blog. I wonder if I know you in person. I'm a wc soccer mom also.

ok, so who was the guy who got stabbed?

maybe they should have checked out all the 20" wheeled trucks that have moved into the Flora apartments.

I've smelled pot at least 3 times walking by.

AND where are the neighborhood watch people?

You'd think with all the neighborhood associations in the Saranap, one of them would have a program to deal with the increased drug trafficking that has been going on over the last year.

Someone from the Sheriff's Department was going to get back to me with information about the stabbing... The PR guy, with everything going on with the Jaycee Dugard case, was probably way overwhelmed, but if I get something on the victim, or whether they caught anyone I'll pass on the information.
I did go running the morning along Boulevard Way and along the intersection with Kinney. That one corner looked--well, I hope I'm not going to offend anyone--a bit iffy. I thought, yes, there is more to this story.

yeah, did the victim die?

OMG - I ride my bike down Blvd. way at least 3 times a week. I feel sick. Please tell me the attackers did not pick on some random cyclist. Please?

There is nothing "iffy" about that corner. It is bounded by an historic house that will be torn down if the Sufi Community has its way, and a couple of smallish houses, none of which I would describe as "iffy". I suppose using sheets instead of curtains in the windows isn't up to snuff in the Creek but I hardly call that 'iffy'.

So what exactly do you mean by 'iffy'?

I talked to the lady that lives in the house where the "attack" took place. It was her grandson, she thought that he may have done this to himself. She said they are trying to figure out what really happened. He is okay, but his story is what I would call iffy.

The sheriffs dept today said the injuries may not be consistent with the story the victim told. More of this will come out over the next few days. Let's keep a lookout for more news.

As Anon. 8/31 9:55 a.m. pointed out, there appears there was something iffy about this whole report. And thanks Anon. 8/ 8:21 p.m. for providing that link.

Actually, what is it about "three guys" who go around and commit all these mysterious attacks. not just in this case, but going back in the history of notorious crimes around the country. It's always three guys. Never one, two, four, or a dozen.

Three.

maybe because if it's one and you are on a bike, you should be able to get away; if it's two, still probably able to get away if one is holding the bike, then you have just one to deal with... but three... that's just over whelming odds: you will be a "real victim" then...

funny, I had a recent situation where it really was 3 "bad guys", and they were able to control the situation in their favor... hmmm

The wounds on the apparent "victim" may have been self-inflicted. Turns out the "crime" may have been filing a false report! The vacant house on the corner has now been purchased and a nice family is moving in, and I don't see how a church in the neighborhood will hurt. BTW that is NOT a historic house anymore than mine is!

The Sheriff's office says no one need take ANY special precautions in the neighborhood as a result of this information, and the Saranap Community Association did call and get updates and post them on their website www.saranaponline.org

That's very comforting.

That house is very, very old and therefore of historical interest.

That having been said I am okay with the Sufi center project. I'm sure the people who put so much time and money into expanding that house are well taken care of or they wouldn't have agreed to the plan and I would rather see a single building on that property than a bunch of houses all crammed together like the in-fill project across the street.

The so called historic house was built in 1927, so is only 82 years old. It has been drastically and badly altered in a 2002 remodel and addition. It was illegally turned into multiple tenant spaces with separate entries. Its historical compliment has been drastically compromised by the prior owners. No permits were taken out to do the conversion to rental units.

and I thought the topic was about some kid who is obviously crying out for attention to such an extent that suicide counselors would likely call it "a call for help"...

The "kid" is 27 years old, and likely inflicted the so-called attack on himself. He was transported to John Muir and later released so was probably not hurt too bad. Check the Saranap Commmunity Association website for updates on this supposed incident:

www.saranaponline.org

The other "associations" have not updated their websites since March and July respectively.
