Stroll and taste wine in downtown Walnut Creek Wednesday to benefit local schools

The Walnut Creek Downtown Business Association, and nearly three dozen local companies, are inviting people who live and work in and around Walnut Creek to the Second Annual Fall Wine Walk, Wednesday, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Proceeds benefit the Walnut Creek Education Foundation WCEF K-12 and the Northgate Community Pride Foundation. Local retailers are matched with Bay Area and Napa Valley wines to serve some of Northern California's best wines.

Pre-ticket sales are available online for $25 per per person, $30 on the day of the event. And, yes, you must be 21 years or older to participate. The starting location for this event is in front of Pro Home Systems at 1561Civic Drive. All participants must begin at the starting location in order to receive a wine glass, wrist band and map.

For more information, visit the Downtown Business Association's website.

I'm looking forward to the event. I'm a moderation type not like some... uh hum, dumbasbricks.

Felt good about the donation to WCEF and looking forward to the strolling around part. Something different.

People drink way too much in the downtown area pretty regularly. It seems as if the profit from these activities go into the coffers of very few.

I am glad this event will be for the benefit of our schools.

I'm not sure I do understand you? Would you prefer a deserted and empty downtown in the evening? Is it your view that people eating and drinking in downtown do not contribute to the wealth of the city? Isn't there sales tax on food and drinks? Doesn't it support jobs in the food service industry?

Yes, a vibrant nightlife is wonderful. That is what we have until a little after midnight.

We could do without the fistfights, stabbings, vomit, and drunk drivers.

Thanks for reminding us, tonight's wine stroll was great. Really impressed with the hospitality and live music at Mechanic's Bank. Was lead up a creepy, smelly stairway to 2nd floor at 1515, friendly staff but the place lacks ambiance and feels more like a bar than a restaurant. The new Olive oil store on Main is beautiful! Hope lots of money was raised for the schools.

Yes, I went briefly with my elderly mom. It was mostly nice, but, we, too were encouraged to go up those stairs at 1515 Restaurant.

This is a restaurant? Then again, the decor was oh-so classy and "upscale." My mom said, astutely perhaps, that this setting would make a great "pickup place" for "nice young singles."

Gawker moment! Saw Mayor Gary Skrel poke his head onto the second floor. There was a bit of a crowd, and I didn't get a chance to see whether he was going to stay and taste wine, or was checking it out, for council purposes.

Attended the 'walk' for the first time. Recognized lot's of school people. Very nice event. We went to Encore Med Spa and they let us out on the patio overlooking Va Di Vi and the old oak tree. Mechanics bank was pouring from the teller counters, wish I had a camera. Olive store is awesome. What a great town. Hey no parking or traffic problems either!
