A quote for 2010 on how to move forward

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness, concerning all acts of initiative and creation. There is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision."

--Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (although in this painting, he looks like he's hanging back, not ready to leap at any new venture. Although maybe he's just completed yet another of his materpieces, and is taking the opportunity for a well-deserved break.

Well, I don't know much about Goethe himself but I have run into the various "Goethe Institutes" that are to be found in big cities around the world. Did he have any thoughts about beer? Last May in Lagos, Nigeria we had a nice time with a lecture, barbeque and (of course) beer overlooking the lagoon in the Victoria Island area. In the dark like that, Lagos can look like a civilized place.

Then you hook up with the police escort to go home.

What an excellent quote to start the New Year 2010.
I hope to see you at Opening Day for our new Walnut Creek library.
