Mt. Diablo district to consider 200 lay-offs and cutting three days from the school year

The Mt. Diablo Unified School District board will vote Tuesday on making $48.8 million in cuts over the next four years that could lead to laying off 200 credentialed employees, shortening the school year, and making more than $8 million in cuts to special education.

The Contra Costa Times also said that trustees would consider placing a $348 million bond measure on the June 8 ballot.

Pretty vague reporting of the story, even your links show nothing about where the costs and cuts will really be coming from. Of course teachers and other unions will have nothing to do with cuts. The districts always want more money, which never improves anything education wise. It is always more money, more money, more money. Lets see results first.

Hi David,
I agree that the details are vague. I could have done better. Just very limited in time yesterday. That's my excuse or explanation... If I can get more information I'll pass it along....

Dear teachers, how do you feel about your fellow teachers who won't take a pay cut. And because they won't, you will lose your job.

Nice group of people to be associated with...

Another question to the good, high-performing teachers: how do you feel about your union protecting bad teachers? Because they are protected and cannot be fired, all of you get laid off equally.

At the private, profitable corportion where I work, poor performers are laid off and top performers are rewarded. Consequently, the business stays streamlined, competetive, and profitable. Those who work hard reap the rewards.

If the schools could function this way, the taxpayers would probably be much more willing to pass bond measures for education.

I'm a teacher and I'm NOT willing to take a pay cut even if that means others will lose their jobs. I'll take on the added students and/or responsibilities.

The CC Times article says that the board will vote on cutting 3 days from school this year. If they vote yes, is it a done deal or does it have to be negotiated first with the unions? Thanks

The entire MDUSD teacher's union needs to be abolished and shown the door over 90% of them are incompetent boobs.
