U.S. Reps Miller and Garamendi invite you to learn the truth about health care reform at Thursday

"Learn the honest truth and facts about health care reform."

So says an invitation to a forum Thursday with US Representatives George Miller and John Garamend that is hosted by a coalition of labor and community groups from Contra Costa County and nearby areas.

The forum takes place 5 p.m. Thursday at IBEW 302, 1875 Arnold Way, Martinez.

The two East Bay congressman will be talking about the health care reconciliation bill that President Obama just signed. Thursday's forum is sponsored by the Contra Costa Building & Construction Trades Council, Contra Costa Central Labor Council, Napa Solano Building and Construction Trades Council, Napa Solano Central Labor Council, Contra Costa County Democratic Central Committee, League of United Latin American Citizens (LuLAc), NAACP East County Branch, and the NAACP Richmond Branch.

Ewww, where unions go, I don't. There's everything that's wrong with politics right there.

@ 7:45...

I couldn't have said it better. George Miller is a crook. Someone should ask him about payroll protection. What a joke.

All those union sponsors! There's no truth there.

Why? Because they sell their votes for money. "Mr. Union Member, vote for me and I'll make sure you get a sweetheart deal on health care."

Mr. Miller, why not just skip a step in the process and hand them cash directly? It amounts to the same thing: votes for money.

Three responses, actually it sounds like the same person, from people who do not want to know the truth. No facts just rhetoric. Is it bad that our country, which ranks 37th in the world for life-expectancy tries to help its citizens? I make a good living, with a good portfolio and most of those talking against this bill are the under-educated.

Garamendi & Miller are dirtbags.

Sometimes I read comments here and by the best of my intentions can't figure out what you guys want to say.

For example "b" what do you want to say with?

Why? Because they sell their votes for money. "Mr. Union Member, vote for me and I'll make sure you get a sweetheart deal on health care."

Are you saying the Union Leadership sells their votes to the highest bidder without regards of the economic interest of the Union Membership, as implied in the first sentence?

Or do you want to say, that Union Member would vote according to their economic interest as implied in the second sentence?

And what would be wrong with this? Do you think that TeaBaggers vote for their candidates because they would not represent their best interest?

@ David

Speaking of facts, it's a fact that a majority of American's are against ObamaCare. For some reason, the bill still passed. When a majority of your union votes on an issue, is it then rejected?

"most of those talking against this bill are the under-educated"

Now that's some rhetoric. Did you have to get clearance from your shop steward to post comments on this site?

Anon 12:52 glad you brought up facts:

Polling and call-in votes might be the way you express your sentiments on American Idol.

The way our country has been set up is that the members of Congress represent the American votes. Since the Bill passed both in the House and the Senate by definition it is a fact that a majority of Americans supported the bill.

You mean Miller and Garamendi will tell the truth as they see it.

David,

Trolls frequently change identities to make folks believe that there are a large number of people opposing something. It's easy when you don't have to sign in to post.

Ewww, where 7:45 goes, I don't. She sounds like a total skank.

See how easy it is to troll?

12:52,

Just curious. Do all teabaggers have to be semi-literate? I thought perhaps it was a some kind of requirement to join your group because I haven't seen one that can spell and understand the use of grammar you might want to look up the use of the apostrophe).

It reinforces the notion that teabaggers are ignorant white people. If you're white, then we know it's true.

Looks like I need to go back to keyboarding class!

Shame on those who have nothing better than to call our elected representatives "dirtbags." I did not like or support President George W. Bush, but I didn't call him names (would have liked to have seen him impeached though). The outing of a CIA operative by the Bush Administration was an act of treason. Shame on all of those who are trying to undermine our country with the filth they are spouting. If one truly cares about what is happening, they should go and listen to these Representatives(and behave civilly while there) - they might learn something.

Anonymous 12:52,

Actually I have no union ties, I am a self-employed health practitioner in a hospital. Guess what most of the doctors I know are for change, some opinions on what kind of change, but most agree this is a start. It will get changes and tweaking over the years as do most bills.

As for the majority not supporting it that depends on the poll. It seems pretty even in the unbiased one I have seen. However, because the majority of people supported lynching a century ago did that make it right?

5:38 am,

Just curious, do all liberals have to be insulting? You know perfectly well that "teabaggers" is a derogatory term. Why do you insist on using it?

"teabaggers are ignorant white people. If you're white, then we know it's true." Why are liberals so racist? You are the ones bringing up race all the time. I'm white. I admire Thomas Sowell and Clarence Thomas. Am I still a racist because I don't agree with our black president? That line of argument is ridiculous and makes you look stupid.

"Looks like I need to go back to keyboarding class!" I love it when someone who is flaming others makes a mistake themselves...talk about cosmic justice. It made my day.

Leave it to George Miller to have the meeting at the union hall. What better way to keep the general public out than to surround them with union thugs? Miller should have been shown the door 20 years ago, but odds are he will have his job until the day he dies, thanks to the union hacks in his district.

I belong to a union. The Teachers Union. Our union recommended a vote to voluntarily cut our pay to help the school district. We passed that vote and will give up $2100 each year for three years until our district gets back on it's feet. I didn't see any of the malcontents here stepping forward with money. Hacks and thugs? Time to look in the mirror.
