Revolving suspects in homicide with Concord man now in jail

The probe into the death of a 47-year-old Hayward man has led to a shift in crime scenes, jurisdictions, investigating agencies and suspects.

Walnut Creek police took over the case from Contra Costa County Sheriff's detectives after learning that Jeffrey Mead Patterson didn't die at the San Miguel Drive property where his body was found Monday evening but at an address on Oak Knoll Loop. The original crime scene, in the 2300 block of San Miguel Drive, is located in unincorporated section of Walnut Creek. The new crime scene, on Oak Knoll Loop, is located within Walnut Creek city limits.

Once Walnut Creek police took over the case, they learned that Shannon Alexander, the San Miguel Drive resident initially arrested in connection with Patterson's death, should be released from county jail in Martinez, pending further investigation, Walnut Creek Patch reported.

Police on Wednesday arrested a man named Frank Castro, after searching an Oak Knoll Loop home. The next day, on Thursday, Michael Miller, 22, of Concord, paid a visit to the Walnut Creek police headquarters. Castro was released from custody, with no charges being filed.

Now, it's Miller who sits in county jail on suspicion of homicide.

Walnut Creek police say no further information is being released as the investigation is ongoing.
