Memorials this weekend at Miramonte High for Joseph Loudon

UPDATE: A community celebration of the life of Joseph Loudon is to be held today at Miramonte High in Orinda from 2 to 3 p.m. Joseph, 16 and a sophomore, died last weekend. Police suspect he drank too much at a party held at the home of a neighbor and rugby teammate.

Today's community event will take place on the school's football field.

Miramonte High students also organized a candelight memorial Friday night.

"Everyone welcome," it said on the Miramonte High website about the memorial. "Join us in remembering our friend."

Loudon was described in news reports as a popular athlete and natural leader. The exact cause of his death is pending toxicology tests.

Loudon collapsed at the home of a neighbor, where some 50 to 60 young people were gathered, many of whom were drinking, police have said. Someone called 911, but paramedics failed to revive him. He was transported to Kaiser hospital in Walnut Creek where he was declared dead about midnight.

Sad. So hard to understand what motivates youth to party in such a way.

Prayers and thoughts for this young man's family and friends, a tremendous loss to those who are grieving.
