From June 1 to June 14, local rotary clubs are hosting a blood drive at the Contra Costa Blood Center in Pleasanton.
"Each donation can affect, help, and potentially save the life of up to three patients in local hospitals," the Rotary clubs of the Diablo Valley say. And blood, this reader says, is "one of the things that cannot be artificially sourced, and communities are totally dependent on the spirit of giving."
Here's the community notice going out:
The American Red Cross & Diablo Valley Area Rotary have teamed up to help with our communities ‘summer blood supply’ needs.
Please consider donating and inviting others to join our blood drive in supporting the community. With one hour worth of your time, you will be giving the Gift of Life.
The Contra Costa Blood Center is located at 140 Gregory Lane, Pleasant Hill. Walk-ins are welcome but you can also schedule at appointment by calling (925) 602-1460. Please remember to bring a photo ID and sign in on the specific Rotary sign-in sheet at the center.
The center's hours of operation are:
Sunday-Thursday, 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You can always make a donation at the Red Cross, Pleasant Hill location (near Crescent Plaza). I give platelets monthly there. They're wonderful and accommodating. Good cookies, too!
