Police say they are taking “seriously” a Concord middle school girl’s report that she was kidnapped and released unharmed in Walnut Creek

Concord police Lt. Jim Lardieri told the Contra Costa Times that there is “no evidence” to indicate that a 14-year-old girl fabricated her report that she was kidnapped by two men in an SUV while she was on her way to school at Oak Grove Intermediate School Thursday.

“We are taking this seriously,” Lardieri says.

Walnut Creek police notified their colleagues in Concord at about 11:30 Thursday that a girl had come into a Walnut Creek business, telling an employee that she had been kidnapped.

The girl, who said she had not been injured during the incident, said she was walking on David Avenue en route to Oak Grove Intermediate to start the school day.  A black SUV, she said, pulled up alongside her. There were two men inside. One pulled her in.

The girl said she was driven around the area and eventually let out somewhere in Walnut Creek.

The suspects are described as two Hispanic males between 20 and 24 years old.

Dick Nicoll, interim superintendent for the Mt. Diablo school district, told the Times that he had been prepared to send out an automated message to parents Thursday evening, but police asked them “not to do an ‘all-call’ at this time.”

“I have not talked to the girl,” he said. “I really don't know the facts or the circumstances, so we're just waiting for them to complete their investigation and advise us."

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Concord Police Department at (925) 671-3333, the Concord Police Tip Line at (925) 603-5836, or the Bay Area Crimestoppers at (800) 222-8477.

I guess the police have to take it seriously but something about this doesn't add up. Was it finals at Oak Grove yesterday? Was she trying to avoid something? Did she take a ride, skip school and worry she'd get in trouble?
