Show Your Support for Medical Cannabis in Walnut Creek, Get Some Free Pizza

Walnut Creek residents and others who support safe and reliable access to medical cannabis for local patients are invited to a meeting Thursday evening--and some free pizza.

The organizers of the meeting Thursday at Rocco's Pizza Ristorante say they support the Walnut Creek City Council's effort to "create a well-regulated ordinance that protects patient's safe access to medical cannabis."

The organizers are looking to get a group of community activists and patients together in Walnut Creek, and the surrounding areas, in order to stress the need and advocate for responsible, community-based medical marijuana dispensaries.

If you're interested in attending, the meeting will be 6 to 8 p.m. at Rocco's Pizzeria Ristorante in the Encina Grande shopping center at Ygnacio Valley and Oak Grove roads.

Thanks for the heads up. Surprised this was off my radar. Any info on the group putting this on? I would like to spread the word, but am not sure who I would be endorsing I suppose. If you have any contact info it would be appreciated...Thanks.

I won't be able to attend, but do support the legalization of marijuana.

I'm very tired of hearing my friends who can knock back a bottle of wine every evening tell me how unhealthy it is.

I'm tired of hearing my friends who take Zoloft for depression, Ambien to help them sleep and muscle relaxers for their aches and pains, tell me that it is illegal.

Why is a plant so evil, but chemicals created in a lab by pharmaceutical companies for profit, holy?

I don't like pizza in particular, but love pot, legal or otherwise. Party on!

Just curious.....how many of you that support the legalization of pot for any and all support an individual's use of cigarette tobacco?

A double standard exists in our society as evidenced by the open smoking of pot at many concerts I have attended over the years but as a tobacco smoker I must leave my seat and go to a designated smoking area. Huh?

As a tobacco smoker you choose to go to the smoking section. Since society already makes cannabis users outlaws and they will normally be asked to leave the show or arrested if discovered, most will smoke their cannabis like the renegade they were made to be by prohibition. I am sure cannabis smokers would be glad to go to the smoking section if cops quit kicking people's doors in and hauling them to jail for using cannabis.

Not true Mickey,

I have been to many concerts at the Pavillion where pot is smoked openly in the seats and no one is ever hassled by cops or patrons.

I have also tried to smoke a regular cigarette that those same concerts in my seat and have been harassed by the very same pot smokers.

I have also had the same experience at Candlestick Park.

Go figure.

Hypocrites..., everywhere.

But the fact is that the reason they are not in the smoking section is because they would be easy targets for security. I have also seen people smoke cigarettes in their seats at the Pavilion. Shit happens, I suppose. But cannabis smokers are treated differently, so they act differently. Are you saying NO cannabis users have been arrested at the Pavilion? Now that is rich...

So..This event is not listed on Walnut Creek Patch. Why? Is Patch anti-cannabis? It seems like the one story by Gilbert Doubet was published there and since none of your postings on cannabis have made the cut, including this event. What gives? If the folks at AOL do not want any local news about cannabis on their site, let me know, and I will surely quit looking there for realistic or valuable information. If they are censoring cannabis content, I would definitely boycott the effort. Troubling coincidence if not...

Has paranoia set in Mickey?

Here is the headline posted TWO days ago on WC Patch:

Social ServicesShow Your Support for Medical Cannabis in Walnut Creek, Get Some Free Pizza.....followed by an article giving date, time location etc.

Lighten up. SM is usually pretty balanced in her reporting.

I must have missed that posting, which is odd:). The event for tonight is still not listed. I know Soccer Mom is very honest and open about the issue and does a great job of keeping the community abreast of the cannabis reality, which is why I found it strange that some stories from here were not on Patch. Just wondering of the corporate buggers at AOL were chiming in...

If marijuana is ever legalized in CA, it should be a misdemeanor and a big ass fine to possess ANY amount of marijuana in the passenger compartment of a vehicle....just like open containers. Also driving under the influence of marijuana penalties should be just as severe as under the influence of alcohol.

Zoloft, Ambien and and muscle relaxers treat real medical conditions. Most people take these drugs for medicinal purposes, although a small minority abuse them.

Just the opposite is true with marijuana. The VAST majority of marijuana users use it for a thrill. The fact they can now obtain the drug under the guise of a medical condition does not change the fact that most marijuana users use it to get high.

That's the difference.
