Fraud alert issue on Walnut Creek woman who was caregiving for elderly

While investigating a 43-year-old Walnut Creek woman in connection with using a stolen credit card Saturday, police learned she caring for an elderly Moraga resident while on probation for stealing from another dependent adult.

The investigation into Dayna Drew began Saturday afternoon when officers went to Target on a report of a suspicious transaction. Drew and another woman had been attempting to make a purchase using a credit card that had been stolen from a purse in an Alamo grocery store, police said.

After learning Drew was on probation, officers searched her home and found financial information that she had stolen from an elderly person she cares for in Moraga, police said. As part of her probation, Drew is not supposed to be acting as a caregiver.

Drew was arrested for the following charges: possession of stolen property; theft or use of an access card; identity theft; violation of probation. The woman she was with at Target, Carmelia Hamilton, was taken into custody for an outstanding arrest warrant.

Police believe Drew is working as a caregiver for other people. If anyone knows of an elderly or dependent adult who is in Drew's care, they should contact Walnut Creek police or police in the hometown of the elderly or dependent adult, 925-943-5844.
