Police volunteers offer free vacation home checks

Going away sometime between now and New Year's?

You can ask to have for trained volunteers to check up on your home while you're away.

According to the city's newsletter, In the Nutshell, city residents can receive free home visits from the Volunteers in Police Services. These trained volunteers will "act as an extra set of eyes and ears," according to the November/December issue of In the Nutshell.

These volunteers will perform a thorough inspection of your property while you are away, including a perimeter check, check of all doors and windows, verification of vehicles left on the property and verification of any people found on the property. This service is provided to vacationers who are gone for at least three days, up to a maximum of 30 days. Vacant properties are not eligible for vacation checks.

To request a vacation house check, go to www.walnutcreekpd.com and click the vacation house check link. Or call (925) 256-3525 to have an application sent to your home. Please return the request form at least 72 hours prior to your departure.
