Possible County Connection cancellation and other WC traffic news for students, parents in wake of I-680 shooting

Traffic is a mess in and around downtown Walnut Creek Tuesday following a CHP officer-involved shooting on Interstate 680 just south of town Tuesday morning. And that mess will have a likely impact on transporting students from school to home.

Principals at Walnut Creek Intermediate and Las Lomas High School have issued the following information to parents, with regards to picking up their kids from school and the possible cancellation today of County Connection bus service.

Walnut Creek Intermediate Principal Mike Cannon says County Connection bus service for Walnut Creek Intermediate may be cancelled.

In an email sent out to parents about 1:45 p.m., he said:
I wanted to let you know that today only, the County Connection after school bus service may be cancelled.  We just received a call that they are not sure if they will be at the WCI stops after school but will do their best to do so.
The reason for this is during the morning commute, there was a shooting on the HWY 680 freeway near the Livorna Exit. The Walnut Creek Police have said students and staff are safe to continue at school today. CHP is in the process of investigating the shooting, but be aware that the safety of our students is not compromised and we will continue our normal school routines.
Please be advised, at this time, HWY 680 has been shut down which has already impacted city streets. If you are picking up your student at the end of the day, please plan your travel time accordingly as city streets may still be impacted at the end of the school day.
Once again, we will not know if the County Connection will be here after school today. We have told students during SSR about this and will allow students to use the office phone after school and remind them to check their phones after school for any information.
You can also call the front office at 944-6840 ext. 8001 to get a message to you student.

And this notice went out from Matt Campbell at Las Lomas High School:
During the morning commute, there was a shooting on the HWY 680 freeway near the Livorna Exit. I have communicated with the Walnut Creek Police and the students and staff are safe to continue at school today.
