Man arrested on suspicion of making terrorist threats at Cinco De Mayo restaurant

Walnut Creek police arrested a 50-year-old Concord man after, they say, he walked into Cinco de Mayo restaurant on Locust Street Friday evening, pointed a gun at employees in the busy restaurant and threatened them in Spanish.

Eduardo Ricardo Prado was booked into county jail on $75,000 bail on three counts of terrorist threats, brandishing a firearm and forgery. Brandishing Firearm/Terrorist Threats Arrest

The incident happened at about 7:50 p.m. at the restaurant in the 1300 block of Locust Street. Witnesses provided police with a description of the gunman who they say left on foot after brandishing the gun and making threats.

An officer spotted the man a few few minutes later at the corner of Locust and Cypress streets. He and other officers detained him at gunpoint and found on him what was a realistic looking replica of a handgun. Witnesses identified as the man who came into the restaurant.

Be safe while you celebrate Cinco de Mayo

I was hearing from a Walnut Creek police officer, during a ride-along I took last Saturday morning, that certain, more alcohol-fueled Cinco de Mayo celebrations, can make things busy for the police and less safe for celebrants.

With that in mind, here's a safety reminder from the Walnut Creek police:
As you enjoy and celebrate Cinco de Mayo this season, the Walnut Creek Police Department would like to remind you to be responsible and safe. Officers throughout the City and County will be on alert for DUI drivers and will have a zero tolerance for disruptive behavior as a result of alcohol consumption. Designated drivers and/or taxis are a great alternative to spending time in jail for DUI. We encourage everyone to be safe and have fun, but do so responsibly.
